What are SIIMA awards known for?
South Indian International Movie awards – is the answer possibly known by even a 5 yr old kid.
But Movies And Short Films – is something not known by many out there!!
Yes, SIIMA awards will from this year be given to the shortfilm makers too.
You may wonder why!!
All I could say is that the future belongs to them J
So now that we know, SIIMA awards will be given to short film makers, the toughest question could be – “which short film makers?” Everyday, a new short film is being released and many of them deserve to be applauded and awarded for their work. Irrespective of the hard work thousands of film makers undergo, there must always be the TOP FIVES.
So, coming to the top five, who exactly? Who is the first? Who is the second? Many questions, right? Lets now look on a high-level as on what’s special about the nominations in every category.
Before we discuss about best actor and Best Actress and best film maker stuff, lets talk about the best FILM. Yeah, the best film, ofcourse!!
SIIMA Telugu Short Film Stories - Best Short Film Nominations
Indian Age 25: Not a normal film to talk about. Cross-check the Indian Parenting system, daringly pointing out the flaws of the system. Dialogues took it to the level it is in now. The film represents the perspective of the present-day youth towards their career and personal life.
Why should it win? : Hero action (peaks)
Laddu : what a masterpiece of work it is!! This film is about a diabetic man(more like a 60 yr-old kid) and his liking for sweets. The climax, wherein its revealed that his son and daughter in law stopped eating sweets for the sake of this man’s health is the best point of this film. Taking the audience on an emotional roller coaster, this film is remarkable for how a small happiness of ‘eating sweet’ is picturised with a great magnitude, letting it connected to every diabetic patient.
Why should it win? : Lead action
Direction & screenplay (my favorite)
Vindhyamarutham : Tops the voting race, so far. Wondering why? This film stands out in every aspect of film-making and changed the course of telugu short film for ever. If I have to call it a short film, I will not agree. It is more like a MOVIE on a whole new level. It is a power packed film, with 100% perfectness in almost every craft. It is a love story which portrays the unconditional love as the girl doesn’t give up on her blind boyfriend and lives with him for the rest of her life. And not to forget, This is one of the very few best films shot somewhere about 3-4 yrs ago, that is both technically sound and productionally rich.
Why should it win? : Screenplay
Raagam : I don’ think I should talk about Raagam. Directed by a lady Sree Chaitu, starring singer Sunita garu, this is a great film that talks about a passionate singer’s life. It portrays how a film industry woman is taken for granted by her husband, and how she breaks up with him for better tomorrow. Sunita garu played an excellent role of a strong, single, independent woman, chasing behind her dreams and passion all through her life.
Why should it win? : concept
Why not a girl?: An intense yet warmly socialistic film ever made. “aadapilla puttindani badha kadu nanna!! Amma malli puttindanna anandam”. The best lines I ever heard!! As the man cries after hearing that he was blessed with a baby GIRL, the man’s father consoles him saying not to worry about the girl. Then the man answers that his tears are not out of sadness that a girl child is born, but out of the happiness that his mother was born again!! Such a sensible social cause flick it is!! Wish them all the luck.Aada pilla ni champukunte amma ni champukunnatte!!
Aada pilla ni champukunte amma ni champukunnatte!!
Why should it win?
What follows the ‘Best film’ category??
Obviously the ‘Best director’, who gathers up everyone, combines everything, takes all the pain, even without being paid a penny, worrying about the actors’ remuneration, keeps moving the ship forward, making the impossible, possible.
SIIMA Telugu Short Film Stories - Best Director Nominations
Subhash Chandra Dheeraj Raju : Well, I call them the duo-fathers of telugu short film industry. These guys set a bench mark with the MR productions and no one till date made films with such ease and quality. Coming to the Prayanam nomination, they totally deserve it. Narrating with a marriage and festival touch, the both made it an entertaining watch. May not be true with other genres, but a love genre could be 100% reached to the audience, only through the chemistry and screenplay. These guys undoubtedly succeeded in executing it.
Jayashankarr : This guy made so many promising films, out of which the ‘Happy ending’ stands out first in the queue. Jay has the talent of picking up interesting stories. He always chooses unique concepts and brings the best out of them.
Sreekar : Often short film makers fear making films more than 30mins. The reason is simple. They are afraid it is impossible to make audience stuck to their film for so long. But Sreekar made it possible…that too, way back in 2015 when short film really mean a 10-minute flick. All credits to Sreekar, this film brags top place in youtube playlists. Of the entire 60 minutes, he made every one minute exciting and emotional.
Lakshman Krishna : Man behind the super flick Krishnamurthy garintlo. Of late, in telugu short films, there is a paucity/lack of scenes with village backdrop but With no hi-fi locations, and just a simple village background, he paved way to a great emotional piece of work. Lakshman took utmost care in making this film a flawless piece of work.
Sreekanth Sri: He is a great inspiration to the budding short film directors. The ease of narration in Sreekanth’s films is simply fascinating. Known for his ease of scene-making, he certainly has an eye for actors. He always choses the best in his cast and crew. If not the best, he will make them the best. Nevertheless, he has a unique style of choosing titles.
So now that we discussed about directors, what comes next?
Kudos to these great actors, we have so many beautiful outputs to watch.
SIIMA Telugu Short Film Stories -Best Actor Nominations
Shiva Kumar R : As an actor he has a lot of variety and depth in acting. what an energetic star he is!! I bet, within no time, he would be ruling the film industry. He gave life to the dialogues written for Indian age 25. He set a high standards of acting that, I can’t imagine anyone else in the lead role of this film. With ‘Karam dosa’ movie, he made us realise that he could transform his expressions so coolly that you will even love the villain character more than the hero character.
Srikanth Gurram: I didn’t see a single role of his where anyone else could have performed warmer than him. This guy is known for his cheerful charismatic smile. If you ask me the top 3 charisma of his, I would say his smile, smile and smile. His acting in Tholi parichayam resulted in a magical output of the film. His down to earth performance made his name to the nominations. Lets see if his smile could win the jury hearts too.
Lalith Kalidindi: This guy has a great mass physic ;) and prematho peechumithai is one such film which brought out the softer side of this mass guy :D Known for his balanced acting, he has a great moustache and seducing eyes ;)
Manoj Krishna Tanneru : He is one another finest short film actors, who could do justice to attitude roles. people call him the mini - Allu Arjun of the short film industry. He has an excellent way of dialogue delivery, gluing audience to whatever he says. He is known for his timely sense of humour. I personally feel that, its not the film which gives life to him, but him who gives life to the film.
Anjan Ramachendra: Mass of the masses’ is what you will feel after watching Anjan in Emotion short film. In this film Emotion, he carried out almost every emotion present in the oxford dictionary. A versatile actor, you can call!!...ahh!! with a Tamil hero look ;)
It is a well known fact that, your you tube thumbnail decides your short Film fate initially. Talking about thumbnail, its mostly the actresses those come to the mind. The beauties who brought beauty to the directors’ dreams are worth recalling.
SIIMA Telugu Short Film Stories -Best Actress Nominations
Pavani Gangireddy : She is the versatile actress of short film industry, I would say. She can act tom-boyish, as well as Soundaryish-the family type. A dupe of Soundarya garu is what I would call her for the short film industry. She gave great emotions for the film vindhyamarutham, because of which the chemistry worked out so well with the hero.
Darshini Sekhar : Having a fresh and different face cut, she instantly became the crush number 1 of all the teenage youtube audience. Darshini’s ease of acting, right from the beginning of her career is something worth notable. Her slang and her cheeks are her best features ;)
Mrudula : With her simple and cute acting, her thumbnail is something, the guys would always want to click on. To express in a single line, Mrudula’s acting resembles that of a wave striking the coast; slow and steady and beauuuuutiful. She does magic with her voice. She is one of this kind in the short film industry, resembling actresses of Goutham Menon sir’s movies.
Meghana Lokesh : Oh my God!! Don’t ask me about whats the best in this girl. She is totally the best. She made 100% justice to the ‘Emotion’ short film, by showing almost every emotion in her action. She has that ferociousness in her eyes, seducing and putting in control the guys. Her height, structure, eyes, smile, everything is so perfect…so lets call this beauty the Ms. Perfect.
Sree Yugala : Known for her big eyes, Yugala is making it to big, this year. With a cute smile and subtle action, she too is nominated for the great SIIMA awards. Only a handful of actresses look so simple as Yugala, yet attracting the audience.
No matter how much the director and actors put into, a Good music is a must and that is only what takes the film to a next level. So lets see which music directors made it to the nominations, and why.
SIIMA Telugu Short Film Stories - Best Music Director Nominations
Vamsi Krishna Keys:He must have been nominated definitely for composing the music of high-energy soothening music. Beginning his career with Mr productions, he always met the expectations of audience. His music quality is one of the best, so far in the short film industry. His background scores will remain the favourite few minutes of most of the short film audience.
Kabir Rafi : Known as the DSP of the telugu short film industry, he totally deserves it. He composed music to many films in a very short span of time. His songs and BGMs are just wow. If not for Rafi, many short films currently in the best-films-list wouldn’t have been where actually they are!!
Vamsi, Hari: ‘varamanukona’ song by Vamsi,Hari is the best ever song composed in telugu short films. The rhythms have been hitting the viewers’ pulse for quite a long time now. Widely applauded and immensely popular, the film ‘Vindhyamarutham’ is known for the superb sync between scenes and tune of its song ‘varamanukona’.
Jagdeesh Satyan : Yet another great music director is Jagdeesh. whichever film he composes for, is no doubt a big musical-hit. He is known for his melodies. ‘Nenena evaroona’, sung by Manisha is one of his best compositions ever. His music gave a whole new dimension to the chemistry shown by the actors.
Vamsi Krishna : Direct an action-oriented thriller-cum romantic fantastical movie, but what 90% of the audience look for is entertainment and comedy. Sense of humor is not something everyone’s born with, but a very few luckies. Lets see who made the audience LOL and ROFL and LMAO :D

SIIMA Stories-Best Comedian Nominations
Ravi Siva Teja Paila : You cant forget his expressions in his films. He makes us feel like we are watching someone from our neighbourhood. Ravi’s down to earth acting brings out the best of him. Whatever he says, his presence on screen makes people laugh their stomachs out. Last but not the least, “chempa debba ki Ravi icche expression choosi nagarjuna gaaru pakka flat andi” :D This man is something, I must admit.
Mahesh Vitta : Is there anyone else who could dominate him in his dialogue delivery?? Not a single chance, I bet. With Mahesh, there is no need for fun in dialogues. Mahesh himself makes the dialogues sound funny. He makes people laugh, also those who don’t usually cut out but wait for more fun to be generated.
Krishna alias Nani: Probably, he is the only guy who could do ‘Mahishmathi aasan” :D. He used no comedy weapons like slang and expressions, but generated great fun only with his own style, evoking instant laughter.
Niroop Poosarla: “Love ante puvvu” anukuneru meeru!! “Love ante nuvv”ani chepadu mana niroop. Regardless of the scripts and lines written for his dialogues, he spelled them with a great ease and brought a friendly feeling all through out.
Sandeep Kadime : with his comedy in ‘Adhi oka idhile’, He made audience burst into great laughter.
There is a word called ‘support’ in English, which literally means ‘give assistance to’. As the assistant director to the direction, so the supporting actors are to the main actors. Without the supporting actor roles, the films would just be dry banjar lands with no traces of humidity. So lets see who all supported their best.
SIIMA stories-Best actor in a supporting role
Ankith Koyya : If someone asks me the smartest actor of short films, I would without any doubt, answer ‘Ankith koyya’. He is one of those actors, who act in pace with the lead roles. He has that ability to remain in audience minds with the only few minutes of screen time he has. Don’t think anyone could forget the timely fun he generated in the plot of yedane vadili velipomakey.
Ravi Siva Teja Paila : Portraying roles, involving terrific dialogue delivery with extraordinary sense of humor is his specialty. His acting is so natural that you find a friend in him but not some strange actor. He probably has quite a big following among female audience as all that the girls look for is a guy with good sense of humour ;)
Appaji Ambarish: He excelled his role in Krishnamurthy garintlo to the extent that, any short film makers would first approach him for any father roles, written. Fortunate, we are to have such senior artists trying to give their best. Provided he continues to act, he shall be very popular in the years to come.
Ravi Varma : he got himself very deep into the character he was portraying in laddu. Without him and his expressions, this film could have been just impossible. With the role he played, he indirectly advised the other actors to experiment different shades of characterisations. Personally speaking, he seems to be a real down to earth person with no award that could justify his modest nature.
Ajay ghosh : Inarguably, one of the best supporting actors he is!! In the film joke, He got all the jail custody scenes right, with his villainistic style of acting. He will make a great villain in the coming days.
Best actress in a supporting role (Nominations)
SIIMA stories-Best actress in a supporting role
Amala chebolu: She mesmerized with her performance in Janaki kalipindi iddarni and stood first in Nominations list.
Jahnavi Dasetty: Yet again, with peechumithai, Jahnavi exhibits her great flair for comedy. She is a feast to watch in this film, as you continue through the punchlines used by her. Acting like a girl-next-door, Jahnvi will remain ever green in the hearts of all the youtube audience.
Monica: Monica played the role of a sensible daughter-in-law. She brought beauty to the film laddu, with her homely style of action. She also succeeded in causing a little bit of tension in the audience, who fondly wish for Ravi Varma garu to get a mothichoor laddu :D
Prabha kurtha : Her role of a poor and shabby mother, in the film Kurtha can never be forgotten. She could be taken as a reference by the supporting role artists for all the great emotions she presented on the screen.
Tanmai nekkanti : looks cute when she says the dialogue, “they’re on duty sir!!”.
Wishing all the above guys a good luck, would also like to recall and appreciate the efforts of those who couldn’t make it to the SIIMA awards. Just because, you are not nominated doesn’t make you worth lesser. It is just that unfortunately, your films didn’t meet some criteria. Hopefully, they will definitely make it to the other great awards.
Once again, “cinemallo manchi cinemalu, chedu cinemalu undavu. Manchiki daari these cinemalu, chedu ki daar these cinema lu maathrame untay”.
